The City Market is turning five – where does the time go? (Well, many steampunks know exactly where it goes, and often go with it, or against it, but we digress …)
Wellington’s wonderful artisan food market, undercover in the Chaffers Dock apartments by Waitangi Park, is celebrating reaching school age by extending their hours to 2pm and bringing back some of their previous stallholders to join the current ones. There’ll also be face painting, giveaways, wine with bubbles, music … and US!
Colonel Hawthorne and Mrs Hudson (the younger) were made very welcome when we visited the night market before Christmas last year. Come and join us, dressed in your best (of course), for a stroll around the birthday market, a chat with all and sundry and – yes! – one or two photo opportunities. Ample coffee, sticky buns and other essentials will, naturally, be available.
Get there about 11am and we’ll see you inside. Depending on the weather, parking can be a bit of an art but try Oriental Parade or, if all else fails, undercover at Te Papa.
UPDATE: It seems the Wellington Marathon is being run that day around the waterfront. It may be all over by 11am, but be prepared to park a little further away than you’d usually have to. On the bright side, you’ll get to wear your finery through the streets for a bit longer.
