Tickets for Visa Wellington on a Plate events are now on sale through Ticketek. As always, there’s a huge variety of events as part of the festival, which runs from 15 – 31 August this year, but there are a couple we think would be perfect for Capital! Steampunk members to get along to, time and funds permitting.
St John’s Bar & Restaurant at 5 Cable Street is hosting Around the World in Eighty-ish Minutes on Wednesday 20 August. To quote the Wellington on a Plate website:
St Johns Restaurant & Bar will take guests on an unforgettable musical, wine and culinary journey around the world in 80-ish minutes.
You will dine out on the culture and cuisine of all continents; Europe, Asia, the Americas, Africa – from the tropics to the cold of Antarctica.
Get dressed up in your favourite international costume or come as Phileas Fogg!
If that’s not an invitation to steampunkery, we don’t know what is.
And the Bangalore Polo Club, 63 Courtenay Place, has a British East India Company Feast on Wednesday 20 and 27 August. Again quoting the WOAP site:
Celebrate a feast fit for the Maharaja. Showcasing the colourful history of the formation of The Bangalore Polo Club, you will taste the cuisine of a bygone era. Immerse yourself in British Colonial India while enjoying local produce with a twist.
You will be taken on a themed four course journey of British Colonial Indian cuisine by our Maharaja, reliving the history in exotic style. The Maharaja’s Harem will be on hand to help and entertain.
A dashed fine excuse to break out the old pith helmet, what?
Book soon – these events sell out quickly. Obviously attending two events at once is a stretch even for such talents as ours, so go for St John’s on the 20th and Bangalore on the 27th if you can manage both. The St John’s event is $70 per person, or $105 including wine, and the Bangalore Polo Club is $120 each.
Colonel Hawthorne and Mrs Hudson (the younger) hope to see you at one or both events.
